Free HGV Training aiming to tackle the driver’s shortage.

The Government has announced a significant contribution of £34 million in order to tackle the driver’s shortage and entice more candidates to join the industry. The funds will be used to provide a free qualification training for the interested parties. It is hoped that this funding will relieve the severe shortage of HGV drivers experienced in the last few months and will stabilise the supply and demand of driving vacancies.

The Skills Bootcamp

It is expected that up to 11.000 drivers will be able to benefit from the funding in order to become HGV Drivers or gain additional qualifications. The course lasts 16 weeks and the training is available for any adult aged 19 or over who is either working or is unemployed.

The Department of Education selected 21 colleges and independent organisations to deliver the HGV training programmes.

The first Graduates are expected to finish their training as soon as March 2022.
